A Successful Pilot in a South African Kasi Opens the TAPP: Unleashing Creativity, Collaboration, and Community Empowerment
In a small township nestled in the heart of the North West Province, South Africa, a powerful transformation is taking flight. The African Phoenix Program, affectionately known as TAPP, has soared to new heights, sparking a creative revolution that promises to reshape the way we engage with culture, innovation, and community.
Launching Dreams, Igniting Change
TAPP, short for “The African Phoenix Program,” is more than a program; it’s a testament to the unyielding spirit of under-resourced communities. With a commitment to fostering talent, creating captivating content, and nurturing collaborations, TAPP is setting its sights on a brighter, more empowered future.
The Birth of TAPP
TAPP began with a vision to amplify the voices of the marginalised and to spread messages of hope, encouragement and community in a township that is experiencing all types of challenges. The idea to start the initiative was inspired by a quote from Elon Musk that goes: “Stop being patient and start asking yourself, how do I accomplish my 10-year plan in 6 months? You will probably fail but you will be a lot further ahead of the person who simply accepted it was going to take 10 years.” Remember: “Impatient with actions, Patience with results.”
From that inspiration, an idea to develop “52 pieces of content in 1 month” was conceived and TAPP was born!
A Journey with a Local Recording Studio, and Creatives & Entrepreneurs from Itsoseng
In a groundbreaking collaboration, TAPP partnered with DCAF (Ditsobotla Creative Arts Foundation) which runs and operates the Itsoseng Recording and Rehearsal Studios in North West, for the “52 pieces of content in 1 month” pilot where TAPP was given access to the facilities and teams to help make the pilot collaboration as success. We then identified the gaps in skills and resources that could inhibit us and resolved to extend the collaboration to other creatives and entrepreneurs in the kasi to help make TAPP successful.
With a whirlwind of creativity, TAPP has captured the essence of community-driven content creation. Behind-the-scenes videos, mesmerising performances, and engaging workshops have been woven into the fabric of TAPP’s success story. The magic lies not just in the creation itself, but in the connections forged, the relationships nurtured, and the doors opened for aspiring artists and creatives.
In the space of 40 – 45 days, TAPP became the cutting-edge launch-pad it was envisioned to be, and more… with a unique focus on kasi-related content. Together, we have crafted a narrative that celebrates the rich cultural heritage and diversity of South African townships, rural areas, and villages.
