CHIK ALJOY AFRICA’S PUPPET MASTER.

The sky is the limit for comedian and ventriloquist, Chik Aljoy, who discovered ventriloquism while researching theatre on YouTube and instantly fell in love with the art. Intrigued by the skillful technique of making a voice seem to come from a dummy, or animal, Aljoy, invested his time into the craft.
The 23 year old and his monkey, Jackie, made history when they stole the hearts of many including the renowned DJ Fresh who gave him a gold buzzer when he first graced our screens on the reality talent show, South Africa’s Got Talent, as Africa’s first black ventriloquist in 2016.

However, the South Africa’s Got Talent semifinalist has had his fair of trials behind the glitz and glamour in the most coveted industry, when he was confronted with the reality behind the showbiz. “Often people think being on a talent show makes things easy, what they don’t realise is, after the show, what happens next is all in your hands. When I left South Africa’s Got Talent, I had to start afresh and build myself. I had to prove myself, and find ways to break into the industry and it has not been easy” he said.
Aljoy has become Africa’s favorite ventriloquist, with a string of success that afforded him, to share the stage with the biggest names in the comic industry, including everyone’s favorite Skhumba. Together with his puppet, Jackie the pair has performed for audiences as big as 8000 and got nominations to prestigious comedy awards. In 2018 he was nominated for the next level award, at the Savanna comedy awards, followed by the 2019 outstanding comedian of the year at the Bulawayo Art Awards.

Aljoy says he’s largely inspired by his past life experiences which he gladly shares with his audiences. It is the standing ovations that he recently got at the Laugh It Off and Walking this way with Skhumba which has made him a name to be reckoned with in the industry. Driven by his burning desire to break boundaries, Aljoy hopes to inspire children from disadvantage backgrounds to believe in themselves.
Aljoy will be touring the country with Skhumba, for the Big Banger Comedy. He says that, the national tour is his way of reintroducing himself to the audience and to help emerging comedians to establish themselves around the country. The highly anticipated tour kicks off in KwaZulu Natal, Empangeni on the 14th of September.
