PHELI AWARDS 4TH ANNUAL EVENT PROMISES FIREWORKS.

Troublesome kids, in association with ATOemd presents the 4th Annual Pheli Awards. The first annual Pheli Awards were held back in 2016. This year marks four years since the inception of the Pheli Awards. Through the support and love they are receiving from the community and the surroundings, they have managed to host successful events all these years. The Pheli Awards ceremony will be held at Mlambo Hall, Saulville, Phelindaba-Atteridgeville.

Pheli Awards focus on celebrating and crediting local talent. According to Ofentse Sean Lewis, one of the organisers and directors of the event, the mission of the event is to unite the community and make it one, through celebrating excellence. “We also focus on bringing together the young and old in one big hall to celebrate Phelindaba’s rich diversity”- Ofentse.

He told Tsa Pitori that the event aims at acknowledging all the sectors that the townships contains and honor everyone accordingly. From those who have been working hard and empowering fellow residents within Phelindaba and those who have shown excellence in their respective fields. Pheli Awards used to be open for Pheli residents exclusively. Now, everyone within the surroundings of Phelindaba can take part in the Awards. The organisers have included people from Pretoria west, Pretoria north (Mabopane, Soshanguve and Ga-Rankuwa), Pretoria east (Mamelodi).

The theme for this year’s 4th Annual Pheli Awards will be a black-tie event that will give nominees a chance to show off their suits and their evening dresses. “A black-tie event that celebrates and uplifts the youth is what we are hoping to achieve on this year’s award ceremony”-Ofentse said. He further said that they are also looking into getting individuals who are already established in their field of experties, to mentor, guide and sharpen nominees’ skills at large.

Ofentse said they pride themselves with growth. Each year they give away a “Lifetime Achievement Award”. The recipient is one that motivates and inspire the attendees and nominees through their hard work. “We are currently not where we aim to be but this year is a year of awakening, so beautiful things shall happen”- he further said.

Pheli Awards consists of 34 categories in Total. The categories include Small Business of the year, Business of the year, best taxi driver, entrepreneur of the year, best poet, Radio Personality of the year, best show on Pheli FM. They also include best female soccer Player, best female deejay, Grade 12 Top Achiever, journalist/writer of the year, community shaper (leader) as well as lifetime achievement award.

Previously, Pheli Awards winners walked away with trophies, but now the directors of the event are amplifying their efforts by looking for sponsors or funders that will be interested in assisting in any way possible.

Currently they are still on the nomination stage. Ofentse said nominations happens on their Facebook page which is called “Pheli Awards”. Nominees who have made it to the voting stage will be contacted to fill a non-disclosure form then voting will commerce on their website which is www.pheliawards.co.za
