Billydon Mokantas is a 33 year old from Hammanskraal currently living in Soshanguve. He started doing music in 2012 along with his friends. He is a versatile musician and describes his music as Amapiano fused with Barcadi and Kwaito.
‘He says at first it was the lifestyle, fashion, cars, money and girls that pulled him towards doing music but later he realised that you can actually tell stories through music.’ He does music professionally which makes it easy for him to balance personal life and his career. “My job is to entertain and make people happy through my art.” He added.
His biggest challenge is lack of financing which makes it hard for him to fund his music career which includes music videos, PR and merchandising his music. Like most artist in the country he suffered a lot due to Covid 19 as he had to cancel gigs to adhere to rules and regulations but he is glad things are now back to the new normal.
“I believe as a country we have a bright future ahead of us because social media allows anyone to showcase their talent and engage their fans.” He says. He advices anyone who would like to do music to be passionate and keep learning as it is a tough industry. #ladi_jaja?
