Kgomotso Mphela is the founder of Kgomotso Children’s Centre, based in Soshanguve, Block NN. Kgomotso Children Centre was established in 2007 when she was 17 years old and it was officially registered in 2011. Today the center is 14 years old it caters for over 300 children in and around Soshanguve. These are children from under privileged families, abusive homes and child headed households.
Kgomotso was motivated by her past to start a centre for children in her community and surrounding areas “ I was raped when I was 8 years old back in 1998 and I took it upon myself to safe keep future generations, impacting children by shielding them from the bad experience of sexual abuse,“ said Mrs Mphela.
She has employed 10 full time caregivers and volunteers, she provides feeding scheme, nutrition education, psychological wellbeing, arts & culture, sports, international exchange programme with Germany, skills development, school support programme and a safe haven to mention few. She has given herself to what she believes in. “I am a wife, a community builder and a mother to many orphaned kids. I am gentle, kind and a nurturing individual. I am self-directed, resourceful, enthusiastic and leading with a genuine interest in fostering children’s cognitive and a social developer for women of all race & age.” Said Mrs Mphela
Her work is recognized by different sectors like back in 2015 she was awarded with the Best Woman of the year award for being someone making a change in the communities in the Gauteng Region, “I recently won the Gauteng Provincial Legislature Community Builder of the year award that was hosted 29 August 2019 in Johannesburg. I am also part of the Royalty Awards nominated for two categories which will be hosted early next year.” She added. She also founded another NPO called Gauteng Women’s Forum that deals with issues such as rape, prevention programme, empowerment programme and psychological support for women. #ladi_jaja
