THE REAL REASON WHY SOLLY MSIMANGA RESIGNED AS THE MAYOR OF TSHWANE.

Solly Msimanga has announced that he is resigning as the mayor of Tshwane after two years in service. The news of his resignation was followed by the rumors, that he was recalled by the Democratic Alliance (DA). Msimanga dismissed these rumours and is adamant that he is leaving his mayoral duties to the city on his own accord, and his decision will give him more time to focus on his run for the premier of Gauteng campaign, in the upcoming 2019 general elections.

Msimanga is the first DA candidate to occupy a mayoral position in the Jacaranda city, after the ANC obtained below 50% in the August 2016 local elections. Through coalition with small parties and the support of the Economic Freedom Fighters, the DA emerged at the top.

Msimanga also had his ups and downs in his term, surviving two votes of motion of no confidence tabled against him by both the ANC and EFF. He was also accused of employing unfit candidates. In a series of tweets, Msimanga addressed his followers and thanked them for their support over the years.

He also boasted of the work he has done in his term ” since we took over, the city received a credit upgrade from Moody’s and was assigned a stable outlook”, he said.

“The achievements and material differences we made in Tshwane have begun to make the lives of those who explicitly voted the ANC out of the government and replaced them with a coalition government will require a strong successor who will carry on with this important work”, Msimanga. The DA is yet to find his successor, however addressing the media, the outgoing mayor reassured the people of Tshwane that he is confident that the DA will appoint a suitable candidate.

Msimanga is said to exit office in February.
