Pretoria-born entrepreneur, Elon Musk, is now the second-richest man in the world with a net worth of $128 billion. He’s still some $64 billion behind Jeff Bezos, but that gap is closing all the time. Elon Musk’s net worth has soared by roughly $100 billion in the past 12 months, despite the adverse effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
“My proceeds from PayPal were $180m. I put $100m in SpaceX, $70m in Tesla and $10m in Solar City. I had to borrow money for rent.” He said. Bill Gates, who co-founded Microsoft, was the world’s richest person for years before Bezos knocked him off the top spot in 2017.
Gates’s fortune is worth $127.7 billion but would be higher had he not donated large sums to charity over the decades. Bezos’s net worth is estimated at £182 billion by Bloomberg. He too has seen his personal fortune rise this year as demand for Amazon’s services climbed in the pandemic.
